It was in 1992. After years of preparation, young and promising Los Angeles artists were shown in the Krinzinger Gallery in Vienna. This exhibition received worldwide attention.
Mike Kelley (1954-2012), have been showed.
At the time of the exhibition, one of the most renowned German newspapers wrote that this show, with a supplementary multi-day symposium, would put every museum in its place. The effort was huge, the lasting success has long been a legend. Art superstars are among them today. The art editions were created parallel to the historical exhibition entitled LAX, i.e. during the artists' stay in Vienna.
Paul McCarthy and Mike Kelley produced the video “Heidi” an “Al (m) (p) dream fairy tale / nightmare” that at least reflects Austria's alpine references to the little country girl's Swiss home.
McCarthy supplemented the hustle and bustle on the mountain with a screen-printed artist's book in black and white. In addition, the large-format offset print “Redheads” was created, showing a polarizing and moving puppet and a grotesque red-haired mummy.
Nancy Rubins, world-famous, was inspired by the city's famous coffee houses to create her, in the truest sense of the word: "cake pictures". Rubins took a critical look at "waste" and the throwaway society from an early age. The 1992 cakes, framed behind glass, are a reminder of this sweet stay and are really an impressive testimony to this time.
Meanwhile, Jeffrey Vallance succumbed to the charm and pathos of the long history, Catholicism and the treasury of the Austrian monarchy. Based on a Catholic legend about Saint Veronica, a screen print / imprint of the face was created. A real “vera icon” on a delicate fabric.
Lari Pittman designed a timepiece that raises questions, so it shows the sentence "This way out" and only the 69 as digits. A maximum of 8 prototypes of the 80s were produced, which explains the particularly high rarity value of the complete box.
Raymond Pettibon, the great graphic artist of the comic art, is represented with two high-quality etchings. The one, red, edition has long been no longer available on the market.
Benjamin Weissman and Jim Shaw also worked together and graphically let Salvador Dalí and the comedian Gleason meet, in the background of which another visual level opens up to the viewer. T
The LAX edition in an attractive and elaborate cardboard case, already an art object in itself, has been equipped in different versions with the works of the artists. Small catalogs of the artists were created for the exhibition at that time, some of which already have one today high collector's value

„Edition Krinzinger“ herausgegebenen Kunst Edition „LAX“1992.
Der Titel LAX bezieht sich auf Los Angeles und die Künstler Mike Kelley, Paul McCarthy, Raymond Pettibon, Nancy Rubins, Jim Shaw, Jeffrey Vallance und Benjamin Weissman“, die 1992 in Wien in einer spektakulären Ausstellung bei Galerie Krinzinger zu sehen waren.
Damals noch junge Künstler aus Los Angeles, konnten nach jahrelanger Vorbereitung in der Galerie Krinzinger gezeigt werden. Diese Ausstellung wurde weltweit beachtet. So schrieb zur Zeit der Ausstellung eine der renommiertesten deutschen Zeitungen, dass diese Schau mit einem ergänzenden mehrtätigen Symposium, jedes Museum in seine Schranken verweise. Der Aufwand war riesig, der nachwirkende Erfolg ist längst Legende.
Die Editionen entstanden parallel zu jener historischen Ausstellung mit dem Titel LAX, also während des Wien-Aufenthaltes der Künstler.
Paul McCarthy und Mike Kelley produzierten das Video „Heidi“ ein „Al(m)(p)traum-Märchen“ das zumindest die alpinen Bezüge Österreichs zur Schweizer Heimat des kleinen Landmädchens wiederspiegelt. McCarthy ergänzte das bunte Treiben am Berge durch ein Siebdruck-Künstlerbuch in schwarz-weiß. Zusätzlich entstand der großformatige Offset-Druck „Redheads“ der eine polarisierende und ergreifende Marionette sowie eine groteske rothaarige Mumie zeigt.
Nancy Rubins ließ sich von den bekannten Kaffeehäusern der Stadt zu ihren, im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes: „Tortenbildern“ inspirieren. Die 1992er-Torten, gerahmt hinter Glas, erinnern an diesen süßen Aufenthalt.
Derweil erlag Jeffrey Vallance dem Charme und Pathos der langen Historie, dem Katholizismus und der Schatzkammer der österreichischen Monarchie. Basierend auf einer Legende um die Heilige Veronika entstand ein Siebdruck / Abdruck des Gesichtes höchstderselben. Ein wahres „vera icon“ auf einem zarten Stoff.
Lari Pittman designte einen Zeitmesser der Fragen aufwirft, so zeigt sie den Satz „This way out" und als Ziffern nur die 69 an.
Raymond Pettibon, der große Grafiker der Comic-Art, ist mit zwei hochwertigen Radierungen, in der Retrospektive vertreten.
Benjamin Weissman und Jim Shaw arbeiteten ebenfalls zusammen und ließen grafisch Salvador Dalí und den Komiker Gleason zusammentreffen, in deren Hintergrund sich dem Betrachter eine weitere Ebene eröffnet.
Die LAX-Edition im ansprechenden und aufwändigen Pappkarton-Koffer, an sich schon Kunst-Objekt, ist in verschiedenen Versionen mit den Arbeiten der Künstler bestückt worden.
Zur damaligen Ausstellung entstanden kleine Kataloge der Künstler, von denen einige heute bereits einen
hohen Sammlerwert aufweise
